Festive fitness

With uBabes weRun

Hello December!!!!

We've been hearing this statement from a lot of people since the 1st of December. The statement oozes happiness, jovial mood and it just gives one a festive vibe. Everyone loves Christmas, it is a season of giving, a season of merry making and a season of celebrating life conquered in the past 11 months. During the festive season it is common to have cheat days in most days because in most homes, food is prepared in abundance, it is accessible whenever one needs to eat and families, friends and neighbours create bonding moments through meal sharing. In our African culture food brings people together and where there are people there should be food to nibble on. Time to maintain exercise routines is also a challenge during festive.

There are extra demands that come with being around people who are in the mood of celebrating not working out. As much as we look forward to this joyous and extremely indulgent season, I advise that we do not divert much from our fitness goals that we had followed religiously throughout the year. Below are the few tips (but not exhaustive to) I have come up with that can help us maintain fitness and at the same time enjoy the festivities.

1. Maintain fun and involving exercise

routines There isn’t much fitness lost if one has been fit for the greater part of the year should we cut off the hours of exercise to accommodate others. If there are visitors at our homes involve them in your routine, they would love it actually. You can add jovial music during the sessions and also wear matching Christmas themed fitness attires to spice up the mood.

2.Commit to stay fit

Seize every moment you get to exercise. Take walks instead of driving, lift groceries instead of pushing trollies, take short fast runs with family as a way of recreational activities. A little exercise is better than none.

3.Calorie check

The festive is an over indulgence season as mentioned before, however you can come up with healthier meals with minimal calorie loads yet delicious and tangy. The market has healthier options and it is wise to always check the ingredients in every pack of any delicacy.

4.Start planning time now

Its easier when you have a clear plan when your visitors come, they fit in the program like a glove.

5.Quality over quantity

Since time may be limited, adjust training times and types of workouts i.e. the soft or light ones to challenging ones. The challenging ones are the ones with high training effect whereas the light ones within your schedule have a lower band of aerobic. Choose to concentrate on challenging ones and make the lighter ones be your rest days or your bonding days with family. Moreover, let us all be merry and enjoy the festive season without regrets. You can maintain your fitness, balance your festive lifestyle and arrive in 2023 in good shape.

Compliments of the season and enjoy your festive filled exercises!
